How to edit WMV file

SolveigMM Video Splitter allows deleting unnecessary fragments from video file without video/audio quality loss. This guide explains how you can edit WMV file.

In our example we will edit initial WMV file by cutting off two fragments with frame accuracy in one pass. In our final movie only the video stream will present, the audio stream will be disabled .

1. Select the Open Media File... command in the File menu.

2. Select file to be edited.

3. Click the button to open the selected file. If the selected file does not have indexes, the dialog window show in Figure 2.1 appears.

The window contains two radio buttons: Index initial file and Index by remuxing. When selecting Index initial file, error message can appear if the initial file is damaged. Then select the second variant.

When selecting Index by remuxing, the Browse For Folder window (Figure 2.2) opens. Select the folder from the list or create new one, where the re-muxed file should be saved and click OK. The window shown in Figure 2.3 appears when starting the indexing process.

Note: The file indexing ensures that the splitting process will be performed accurate within the frame. The splitted fragment will start with exactly that frame on which the beginning marker was placed. And the last frame of the splitted fragment will be the frame on which the ending marker was placed.

4. Deselect the Audio checkbox in the Control menu to disable audio stream in the final movie.

5. Click the Zoom In button to increase a slider timeline resolution. This will allow more comfortable editing neighbor markers. The scroll bar under the timeline appears.

6. Find the beginning of the first part of your movie using Video slider.

7. Click the Add marker button. You can also add the marker selecting the Set New Marker command of the contextual menu or using the [M] key. Then add the marker at the end of the fragment. Markers divide movie into several fragments (see Basic Terms). In our example we divide our movie into four fragments by adding markers in the required places.

8. Select the fragment you want to cut off from the movie by clicking your left mouse button.

9. Open the contextual menu by clicking your right mouse button and select the Cut Off Selected Fragment command. The selected fragment will be marked with white color (see Basic Terms).

10. Select other fragments you want to cut off from the movie. In our example we marked the second fragment as 'cut off' as described in 9.

11. Select the Tools->Batch Manager->Add Task To Batch Queue command or press the [A] key to add task to the batch queue.

12. Enter new file name in the appeared Save As window.

13. Click the Save button. You will see the current progress of splitting. You can add several tasks to the batch queue.

14. Select the Tools->Batch Manager->Show Batch Manager command to open Batch Manager. In the appeared window (Figure 7) you can see the list of added tasks.

15. Open the contextual menu in the Batch Manager window by clicking your right mouse button.

16. Then select the Start Batch Processing command in the contextual menu (Figure 8) to start performance of the tasks.

The window containing information about splitting process (Figure 9.1) appears. When the trimming process is finished, the window shown in
Figure 9.2 opens.

Every task from the list should be performed. In our list we had three tasks, so at the end of the procedure we have three edited files. One of them consists of two fragments. Two fragments selected as 'cut off' was deleted from the movie.
