Video Splitter / Most HEVC cuts are corrupt for the first few seconds
« on: April 20, 2022, 07:50:13 AM »
This behaviour has been the norm for sometime now. I have seen this on most HEVC sources. The following behaviour manifests when editing them:
  • If the clip is minutes long then the progress stops after about 10 seconds.
  • The PC starts freezing which continues for 10-20 seconds. I see another process in task manager choking the system.
  • Then the clip resumes composition
  • The exported file does not run
  • To fix it, I remux it with MKVToolNix.
  • The resulting file has the first seconds proportional to the length of the clip depicting the same frame. Audio remains fine. This can be 5 seconds but I have also seen over 24 seconds of corruption.

Some smaller clips especially the ones exported right after starting the app can get away with good output.

I have a very good PC which can run video rendering software completely fine without freezes so I don't think that's the problem.

I can't provide you the sources.

Please refer the image below:

As you can see, I can't see the language of the subtitles at all, its cut off after the first pixel.

Add a file to the timeline which has multiple audio streams and >20 subtitle tracks, the select streams dialogue, under control menu, slows to a crawl.

I don't understand, the program is at idle, nothing is playing, why does this dialogue seem to be redrawing every time I scroll.

Also it seriously lacks controls to enable/disable all tracks to make it easier to select few of them. I have to disable each and every one of them by hand.

4
Still having same issue on v7.4, it happens with all files with external SRT subs. Fortunately, it does not occur for individual fragments so I can at least merge them using mkvtoolnix.

5
Yes, I would love to disable this feature too!

Video Splitter / Re: Stuck in "Now splitting the sequence"

The to do list has not had its turn since many versions now.

For everybody who encounters this bug as frequently as I do, a workaround is to add few seconds to either end of the clip and it will work at some point. But still the output may not be in sync so you may have to separate the tracks and combine them again through another program like mkvtoolnix to make it work perfectly.

As an experiment I just converted SRT to ASS and it started working :o

I encounter this error with select files. These files even if re-encoded yield the same error. The error appears once when they are set to be edited and multiple times when a fragment is saved. At the end of the series of errors, it says that there is no overlap between the pins and cancels the process. Many features of windows explorer get unresponsive when these errors are displayed like drag and drop functions.

All these files have external SRT subtitles. They only give error when they are picked up from the folder. Without they work fine.

I don't have the source to help out but i don't think its that hard to replicate, considering it happens with all srt external subtitles. I only tested with mkv and mp4, both produced the same results. Perhaps the next time, I am given a similar project that I will post some samples.

I installed v7 today so didn't notice but it is doing this always now. I have to re-sync each and every fragment which does not end with an overlapping subtitle.

You are talking about a software you want recommendation of and posting it in the very forum of such a software?

I am facing this issue consistently with external srt subtitles since a few months now. The audio/video streams are correctly cut and merged but subtitles always have this issue. This happens to random fragments in almost every mp4 file I split.

- For example, let's say there are two fragments A and B.
- The last subtitle entry of A ends sometime before the end of the audio/video streams, lets say 5 seconds before.
- When B gets merged, its subtitles start immediately after the last line of subtitle of A.
- The 5 seconds of no subtitles is skipped completely.

To resolve this, I have to use another program to resync the subtitles. I had thought that you would have fixed it with the new version but alas, I was hoping too much. v7 doesn't even select the external subtitles for splitting by default anymore as well...
