Video Splitter / Re: splitter won't open 2736x1824 mp4 zoom recording
« on: April 05, 2022, 02:53:08 AM »
Thanks, Jane. I used Blender to re-render it to 720p and was able to edit the resulting file. It's also a lot easier to edit a 1280 x 720 file than a 2736 x 1824 file.

A second copy was sent via Google drive, and in both cases, I sent an email to support@solveigmm.com with the details.
Thanks for your patience with my file transfer challenges <grin>.

I have just sent the file via WeTransfer.com, and will send  a second copy via another method as a backup.

I had some difficulty with WeTransfer.com, but I think I've shared the original file with you via Dropbox. Please confirm that you are able to retrieve it.

I notice that your dropbox request email referenced a different file, "class-20211016-part1.mp4", but I assume it is the original one from this ticket that you need.

I've sent the file to support@solveigmm.com, with the name GMT20220303-232312_Recording_2736x1824.mp4 .
It's length is 1,402,747,935 bytes, it's duration is 2:52:12 and it was sent via WeTransfer.com, who sent me a successful transfer confirmation.

Thanks for looking into this matter, and I wish you well in these difficult times.

Thank you for the prompt response. I'll get the file to you within 6 hours. A friend has suggested that I upload the file to Vimeo to see if that works, and if so, download their transcoded file to see if I can get Video splitter to open it. I'll try that after sending the file to you.

Video Splitter / splitter won't open 2736x1824 mp4 zoom recording
« on: March 05, 2022, 11:12:11 AM »
As a result of a guest speaker with an unusual monitor, our club meeting Zoom recording had an unusual resolution, based on the filename: GMT20220303-232312_Recording_2736x1824.mp4 . I have edited files up to 1920x1080 successfully, but when I try to drag and drop this file into either the splitter timeline, or the Media Library, nothing happens. Nothing is added to the Video splitter display.

Details on my config from Splitter "about":
Solveigmm Video Splitter x64 Home Edition
Installed version 7.6.2201.27
Version 7.6.2201.14

If I do "check update" it tells me I have the latest version.

I'm running Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, with i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz on an ASUS N501VW laptop with 16 GB RAM.
OS: Windows 10 Home, Version 21H2, OS build: 19044.1526, Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

I get the normal behaviour where the timeline is populated if I drag in an older 1920x1080 file instead. Same for a 1686x768 file.

I don't see anything unusual in the Windows event viewer.

I was looking for a log file, and noticed in ...AppData/Roaming/Solveig Multimedia/SolveigMM Video Splitter Home / Index there are filenames ending in .apk that imply that I have successfully edited larger resolution files in the past, including 2560x1440 and 2048x1152, but none as big as the current troublesome one.

Is this expected behaviour? If not, I can supply the Zoom recording, which is 1,402,747,935 bytes long. The native resolution of the laptop display is 3840x2160, and I will do further experiments to see if I can reproduce the problem with smaller files and different resolutions, and will update this ticket.

Video Splitter / Re: Crash when re-opening a file created by splitter
« on: November 13, 2021, 02:26:32 AM »
Summary: The beta software you sent me solved all my issues.

Details: With beta software I can:
- extract a subset of same original file which:
    - plays in VLC with no blackout at the beginning
    - uploads to Vimeo with no error messages
    - plays normally in Vimeo
- drag the extract back in to VS for further processing with no problems.

Thanks for excellent support: prompt, and thorough.
I assume I can put my original activation code into the beta software, and continue to use it until your next release.
If not, please advise how I should proceed.

Thanks again, - Doug Elliott.

I will do the file uploads within the next 6 hours. Some further data:
- if I repeat the operation, starting with a fresh copy of the original file, all extracted portions act the same way.
- I uploaded the large original file to Vimeo, and it displays fine, with no black out at the beginning.
- I don't have a project file. I do simple editing manually by marking sections then marking them for deletion, and then saving the result.
- I've done this successfully many times in the past. The Zoom meeting and recording was initiated by someone else this time, and the resolution was different: 2048 x 1152 vs the 1920 x 1080 I normally work with.
- I did comparisons of the various parameters for old, and problematic recordings, using a couple of utilities, and the only difference I could find is the resolution, and some parameters I think are related to that, like average bit rate, etc.

Thank you for investigating this issue, as I suspect it may reoccur for me in the future.

Video Splitter / Crash when re-opening a file created by splitter
« on: November 10, 2021, 05:01:13 AM »
Here's the sequence:
-run a Zoom session which is recorded in the cloud
-download the 3 associated files
-use SolveigMM Video Splitter 7.6 Home Edition to extract a portion which I'll call part1.mp4 from the original mp4 file
-upload part1.mp4 to Vimeo
-note that Vimeo won't display the video, saying something like: "something went wrong with upload, please retry"
-retrying upload to Vimeo results in same failure to display
-hoping to get splitter to rewrite the file, I drag part1.mp4 from explorer window to bottom part of a freshly opened splitter window.
-splitter window closes immediately.

When I try to view part1.mp4 in VLC, the sound starts immediately, but the video is black for the first 19 seconds. It appears at that point and seems to be correct.

I have retained all files and can provide them if that would be useful.

Video Splitter / Re: How to use non key frame markers in MP4 files
« on: November 15, 2020, 09:18:38 AM »
I think I have solved my own problem. It appears that frame trimming was disabled. I'm not sure if this was the default after my recent installation (would seem unlikely), or if I changed these settings while trying to get frame trimming to work. My problem was solved by un-checking these 2 options under control in the main menu bar:
   Slider K-Frame Positioning
   Markers K-Frame Positioning

Some background information: Zoom session recordings are extremely optimized MP4 files to minimize the resulting file size. If the video image is static, K frames will only be generated every 36 (thirty six) seconds. If you open the zoom session a bit early for people to join, and have a static welcome screen displayed during that time, you'll get the 36 second intervals for K frames. Trying to trim to the start of the presenters voice, using K frame trimming will get up to 36 seconds of the preceding video and audio, which may be inappropriate, especially if your attendees are rowdy. Even if you mute them in Zoom, which we don't want to do, you'll get a potentially long gap of silence before the presenter is heard in the recording.

This isn't a criticism of SolveigMM, just an illustration how for Zoom session recordings in particular, frame trimming is a critical feature.

Video Splitter / How to use non key frame markers in MP4 files
« on: November 14, 2020, 07:37:41 AM »
I bought SolveigMM Video Splitter in order to get non keyframe start points on clips extracted from Zoom recording MP4 files. However, whenever I try to set a marker on a non key frame, it jumps back to the preceding key frame. I'm wondering if:
1) I'm following the wrong procedure to select my clip start point.
2) I need to do some extra set up to enable non key frame markers, or mp4 file support.
3) SolveigMM doesn't actually have this capability despite what I've seen in writing.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
