Title: No sound in trimmed version
Post by: greenfeet on February 17, 2010, 09:42:06 PM
I have used AVITrimmer for some time now with no problems.  In the last few days, however, it creates an avi file with no sound on playback.  Sound is present in source and missing from trimmed output.  I have a checkmark in the Audio box under Stream, so I can't see what I've done to remove the sound.  Can you please help?

Hi greenfeet,

Sorry for delayed answer. It is hard to say what causes the problem.

If you open trimmed file in AVI trimmer is it only video as streams available?
Could you show that on screenshots please?

I too am having the same problem as greenfeet.
I'm running Windows XP-SP2 and the K-Lite codec pack.

Yes for me, also.  I don't know how to get screen print into this  forum.

Original video --
Stream
   x  Video (XVID)
   _  Video (MP4V)
   x  Audio (MPEG1 L-3)

Trimmed video --
Stream
   x  Video (XVID)
   _  Video (MP4V)

There is no reference to audio in the trimmed video file.

Does your file contain two video streams?

I am afraid my video skill/knowledge level is low.  I don't know exactly what that means or how to check (2 video streams).

When I play the original video I get a single video window that plays and it does not ask for any selection.

My video player indicates (source video) --
     video decoder = Gretech Video
audio decoder = MP3 Decoder DMO

*** VIDEO INFO ***
Input Type : XVID(GVC)
Input Size : 624 x 352
Output Type : YUY2
Output Size : 624 x 352
FrameRate(Frame/sec) : 0.00 (29.97)

*** AUDIO INFO ***
SampleRate(Sample/sec) : 48000
BitRate(Bit/sample) : 16
Channels : 2
KBitRate(KBit/sec) : 129

My video player indicates (trimmed video) --
     video decoder = Gretech Video
audio decoder = codec does not exist

*** VIDEO INFO ***
Input Type : XVID(GVC)
Input Size : 624 x 352
Output Type : YUY2
Output Size : 624 x 352
FrameRate(Frame/sec) : 30.03 (29.97)

Does any of that help or can you tell me how to get the information you need ?

Thanks,
PAUL

You wrote:

What does x   and _   mean? It would be easier to get screenshots. you can upload them to her for instance: http://www.imageshack.us/

ok, thanks. Something starge there, as it seems your input has two video streams, but after trimming it still has two, that should not be.
Do you have some not too big AVI file (you have the problems wiht) to upload us?

The file I tried was much simpler than greenfeets.
Original file:
Trimmed file:

I only trimmed a little bit off the end.

I know I have other files like the one above.  Here's a smaller file that keeps its sound after trim.
Source = 20min    http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4492/screenshot3mx.jpg
Trimmed = 2min    http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/2316/screenshot4eq.jpg

I only send these because, in addition to having the audio stream, this example also has 2 video in both source and trimmed.

The smallest sample I have that fails is 357.  If I can upload a file that size will that work for you?

Previous update should have said smallest is 358Mb.

I've had time to do a few more "trims" on other files that show the same "text in the stream box" as my previously uploaded screenshots and have yet to find another video that doesn't work.

Hi greenfeet,
Thank you for the file. You have uploaded MP4 file instead of AVI. did you try to edit this file by AVI trimmer?
AVI trimmer does not support MP4 files at all, only AVI.

Hello just_ed ,
If would be helpfull if you upload some not too big AVI file you experience the problem you previously described.

Thank you all for your effort and help.

Well, it was an .avi file when I uploaded it.  I failed to notice when it got converted to .mp4.  So, now I don't have anyplace else to upload a 358M video file without doing some conversion to it.

Unfortunately, without having the original file we can't say what causes the proble. Is it convenient to send CD with the file to Germany?

I'm not sure it's worth the bother.  I know it continues to work on other files and I don't know source for files with problems.  Since problem may be with source I will just accept it as a problem isolated to these files.  If I find more (and especially smaller files that I can send you) I'll come back with more information later.  Thanks for trying to help.

I've found the reason for the no sound in some of the trimmed avi's, it's the codecs.  I trimmed a video and no sound.  I then took the video into All to Avi, even though it was already an avi, converted it, and trimmed it again.  This time the sound came through fine, with the All to Avi, avi video.
