Title: Preview does not work

I am able to open the source file, but when I press play, only the audio plays, not the video.  I do not get an error message.

Please help!

Thank you for the post. Did you get video window when opened file file? Was there any picture there or black screen and what kind of video is it?

Hi.

The video window opens when I open the file.  The picture is black.  When I try to scan through the video using the slider, sometimes the picture remains black, but sometimes I get a still picture but no moving video.  Only the still picture and audio keeps playing.

This happens with different files.

DX50 (avi)

Hi JOOCE,

Thank you for the description. That appears as your video decoder causes this problem.

I would suggest you to install the latest version of FFDShow that can be found at this link for instance:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

Sorry for the late reply.

I installed the latest version of FFDShow, and I still have this problem.

Any other ideas?

Hi JOOCE,

Could you let us know if you are able to playback the file, AVI trimmer has difficulties with, by Windows Media Player?

As for codecs probably you have some codec pack installed, so try to upgrade it.

Yes, the files play OK in WMP and VLC as well.

I have divx, vxid, ffdshow, all most recent versions.

Hello Jooce,

Ok, in this case could you please make the following test.
Please download and intall the Video Splitter
http://www.solveigmm.com/?Products&id=VideoSplitter

Then load some of problem files to the Splitter and check if playback behaviour is same as in AVI Trimmer or better?
Then please go to menu->tools>Show preview filters dialog, copy the filters there and paste info to forum.
