I noticed that in version 8, I no longer can split videos by just simply entering the time (start and end) and clicking the save button. Now, I have to use the cut segment scissor icon which I'm not a fan of. Is there a way for me to just enter the start/end time and click save to split videos in version 8?

Yes, you need to use the "scissors" button under the segment to set it to be saved or deleted in the version 8.
This is the best way in version 8 to set segments to be saved/deleted in the final video.

Splitting videos can definitely be a bit tricky if the markers aren't landing exactly where you want them!
I’ve found that using the "K" frame navigation (jumping to the nearest K-frame) usually solves those issues where the split feels a second or two off. Also, if you're dealing with a long file, try using the "Add Marker" shortcut (usually the 'M' key) while playing the video in real-time - it makes the whole process feel much more fluid than trying to drag the slider manually.
If you're still seeing glitches after the split, double-check that you have "Frame Accuracy" enabled in the settings. It adds a tiny bit of processing time but saves a lot of headaches with the final output.
