Title: Video scroller bar not working.
Post by: robbie303 on July 20, 2011, 08:49:04 PM
Hi,

With scrolling WMV9 video in Solveig Video Splitter, when I try to use the bottom scroll bar (the slider cursor or the markers) to scroll through the video, the video preview does not work. It only displays the first frame.  Also when I do something like 'select next K frame' or 'jump 2 min forward', the video preview does not disply the video, it keeps on displaying the first frame of the video. With WMV8 video, XVID, DX50, DIV3 everything works fine (scrolling works good.

All these versions I tried and show the same problem when scrolling WMV9 files.
- 2.2.1005.4
- 2.2.1005.17
- 2.3.1105.25

When I 'play' the video in solveig video splitter and then use the scrolling cursors to scroll the video, then scrolling does work (also with WMV9). But this way of scrolling is not a workable way of selecting a marking point, because the video is playing.

I use Solveig Video Splitter on 2 PC's.

On my 'home' PC (Windows7), scrolling of WMV9 video's works good.
Below is the preview filer information of this PC:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1       WM/ASF Reader      12.0.7601.17514  C:\Windows\system32\qasf.dll
2       WMAudio Decoder DMO      12.0.7601.17514  C:\Windows\system32\qasf.dll
3       WMVideo Decoder DMO      12.0.7601.17514  C:\Windows\system32\qasf.dll
4       Default DirectSound Device   6.6.7601.17514   C:\Windows\system32\quartz.dll
5       Video Renderer      6.6.7601.17514   C:\Windows\system32\quartz.dll
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

On my 'work' PC (Windows XP), scrolling of WMV9 video's does NOT work.
Below is the preview filer information of this PC:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1   WM/ASF Reader         11.0.5721.5145   C:\WINDOWS\system32\qasf.dll
2   WMAudio Decoder DMO      11.0.5721.5145   C:\WINDOWS\system32\qasf.dll
3   WMVideo Decoder DMO      11.0.5721.5145   C:\WINDOWS\system32\qasf.dll
4   Default DirectSound Device                   6.5.2600.5933   C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dll
5   Video Renderer         6.5.2600.5933   C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dll

Thank you.

Dear Dmitry,

At the moment I'm not a registered customer, but somewhere you wrote that people can become a registered user by supplying helpfull postings to the forum or submitting bugs. So maybe this can make me a registered user ?
Here you can find a sample: http://syntecno.home.xs4all.nl/tmp/Sample%20of%20WMV9.wmv
But basically, any WMV9 file has the described problem.
Strange thing is that the scroll bar does work when the file is in 'play' mode...
Thank you, Robbie303

Hello Robbie303,

I've checked WMV9 files playback/navigation in Video Splitter of 2.3 and the latest 2.4 version available from the link below and did not notice this problem.

Video Splitter 2.4:
http://www.solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_2_4_Beta.exe (http://www.solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_2_4_Beta.exe)

Please try to update your Windows Media Player which is supplied with  WMVideo9 Encoder DMO codec, most likely you haven't it on your PC.

Dear Olga, thank you for letting us know that Solveig Video Splitter works at your computer.

I tried the beta version of Video Splitter from the link your supplied. Unfortunately, also with this beta version, the scroll bar is not working when using WMV9 files.
I've seen another forum post where somebody has exactly the same problem with Solveig Video Splitter (scroll bars not working), I can't seem to find that posting anymore, but I do know it was not very recently, so this bug has not been solved for quite some time now.

PS: My Windows Media player is the newest version available for Windows XP.
I installed K-lite standard codec pack, but this also did not solve the problem I'm having.

Thanks, Robbie303

Robbie303,

There is really such a problem.

As the temporary solution please try to make such settings.
Go to ''Control panel'' -> ''Display'' -> ''Troubleshoot'' -> ''Hardware acceleration'' -> move the cursor to the third position from the left as it is depicted on the screen below (Disable all DirectDraw and Direct2D accelerations).

This should help.

You say this is a temporary solution. Will there be a permanent solution also ?

Thank you!,

Hello Olga
This is exactly the same problem which I have reported earlier. I also use XP.
Just for info: This bug has been introduced recently ( I don't remember the version), previous versions did not have this bug.

Hi Olga,

Any news if this bug has been fixed?
I'm using Version 3.6.1301.16
Windows7 does no longer have this 'slider bar' to adjust the hardware acceleration..., So under W7, there is no trick anymore to bypass this bug.
This bug (black display when using slider) only happens with WMV files.

Not all WMV files show this behavior:
With some WMV files the display does not, but with other WMV files, the display keeps on being 'black' when using the scroll bar.
I tried recompiling the 'defective' WMV files to WMV files with various video settings, such as: changing the bitrate, changing the key frame interval, changing VBR or CBR compression. That all had no effect.
But when I used the "Windows Media Video Advanced" instead of the standard "Windows Media Video" codec, then the recompiled video was able to show video when moving the scroll bars..

Hello robbie303,

Thank you for your post.

Please try to use the latest beta version of Video Splitter, will you have any problems with it?

http://solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_7_Beta.exe (http://solveigmm.com/download/SolveigMM_Video_Splitter_3_7_Beta.exe)

If the problem still remains with this version, then please specify the name of your video card and send us please the information about your system.

To get it go to Start - > Run... - > enter "dxdiag.exe". In the opened window click on "Save All Information" window.

Please send us the "DxDiag.txt" file that will be created.

Also please try to install K-lite codec pack, e.g. from the link below:
http://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm (http://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm)

After that please open your wmv file in Windows Player Classic then go to Play - > Filters and check please what name of video render is used.

Thank you in advance.
