Hello ez009m!

Sorry with the delay in my answer.

This is a warning message. It appears if the file itself has errors in AVC specification.
The level in file was specified incorrectly when it was created as the frame resolution is too high.
Therefore Video Splitter changes the Level for it could be edited and playbacked.

If you see such warning, then this not a problem for quality as Video Splitter makes correct settings by itself for you could receive the high quality output files.

Thank you for your post.

If you would not like to re-encode the file I would suggest you to use K-frame accuracy for the file editing. For this you could enable the setting in "Tools -> Frame Accuracy (Smart Mode)" menu, but in this case the editing could be not such precise as with frame accuracy. Here is the useful page regarding the difference with K-frame/frame editing.

With the default settings of frame accuracy Video Splitter re-encodes only few frames at the beginning of the video - the number of frames at the beginning depends on the GOP duration where the Begin Marker is set.  And it also re-encode the last frame at the end of the fragment, where the End Marker is set.

Please specify if you have tested Video Splitter ver. 6.0.1609.2 on the same file as we are - "S01E02 - Skull Forest.mkv". As this file opens ok on Windows 10 at our side.

Thank you for your post.

Please let us know the "MediaInfo" data of the file you are trying to edit. You need to have MediaInfo on your computer (you can download it here )
You can send us this information to support(at)solveigmm(dot)com.

The CPU consumption depends on the input file characteristics.

If you open HD, Full HD or Ultra HD video then the CPU usage can increase.

Please check the file, if the resolution with MediaInfo - if your file is of 1280x720 or 1920x1080 or 3840x2160 then the editing of this file can take more CPU usage.

Regrettably nothing could be done with CPU if the file has such resolution.

Hello mpfirnhaber,

Please try to reinstall Video Splitter - possibly some components from the old version were not replaced while reinstallation.
Please do not forget to close application before the reinstallation. What is your operating system? Do you get this freezing again on adding the file from the Media to the Timeline, right?

I recommend to try to uninstall it from your computer at first (you can use Start -> All programs -> Solveig Multimedia -> SolveigMM Video Splitter Home Edition -> Uninstall  or Windows Control Panel).

After uninstall please make sure that all files in the folders below were removed from your computer

"C:\Program Files\Solveig Multimedia\SolveigMM Video Splitter Home Edition"
and
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Solveig Multimedia"

If there will be any files in this folders please delete them manually from these folders.

Then you could install the product again.
Please use the link below to download the latest version 6.0.1609.2. We have tested this version on several our computers, and have not reproduced the freezing on all editing steps.

We have tested the lates buit of 6.0.1608.24 version and would like to let you know that it works ok at our side with Windows XP.
Some time ago with have fixed the bug with installation of VS 6 on Windows XP, possibly, it is your case.

Sorry for the possible inconveniences.

We've investigated the reason of such behaviour and would like to let you know that the file you have sent is not valid.

Video Splitter uses its default components to playback some kind of files and the component used to playback this file works ok with all other files, including produced by Handbrake at our side, but not this special yours file.

So we have concluded, that the file "S01E02 - Skull Forest.mkv" is not valid one and possible bug should be fixed on Handbrake support side.

Please give us the sample of your file. You could upload it to e.g. Google drive.
Please note that it requires some time for file to be opened., so possibly there is the need to wait sometime until it will be opened.

Please try to use versions available for the download from the following links -speed of editing mkv files created from Handbrake was increased in it. Also it was fixed the hang on some MKV files opening there.

Dear ollie,

crashes seem to come from, from limited use
1. overloading the file input box with too many files
2. overloading the timeline with videos (even when i turn off storyboard and sound)
3. i think it has troubles with MKV, converting to MP4 helps this software

I am using mixture of MKV, MP4 of GoT, different videos and audio spec's

Could you please kindly upload for use sample files that you try to open in "Media" list and timeline?
Please specify approximate number of files that you open.

One other question if I may, Do you need scene detection when you add files to files area? that kinda slows it down?

You could switch the view of list in the "Media" control to "Simple" view - in this case the will be only names of files without thumbnails.

Perhaps just add scene detection when adding to the timeline ONLY or have a switch in the setting? Or is there one that i missed

You could turn off the thumbnails by clicking the special icon on the left side of the timeline. Regrettably there is no such setting in the Preferences at the present time, possibly we should add it.
