I've noticed this as well. I can only liken it to memory leaks that some software suffers from. Could it be the same problem here?

I can just tell that i switched to the 64 bits version of SMV, and unchecked the error log save, but the issue is still there

Hi,

here an another issue i have with SMV. i have it since a long time (maybe with the 6 as well but my memory is bad).

when using SMV, i have a general slow down in the use of windows ! SMV work fine, but for example, i open a file to insert in SMV, or using windows while SMV is open , and everything is slow. i checked the ressource and the use of Cuda, graphic card (GT 640 Zotac), the Cpu, Hard Disc (SSD (Crucial MX500 or 850 Samsung EVO) or normal Hard Disc directly from Sata or on a network (from a synology NAS) make the same issue.
CPu use is normal as well. No idea what's doing that. I have an i7-7700, 32Gb of Ram, Windows 10 Pro x64 with a GT640 Nividia Card. This is only software of all the ones i have on windows who make this issue .

Actually SMV is open, windows react slowly (all the windows, opening closing, moving etc...).
Cpu in use is 0 to 2%. Ram use is 5Gb on a total of 32. (16%)
Temp on all core are very low (28° on each core).

for exemple, i click on "+" to add a video file in SMW and it take 5 seconds to open the explorer window !

It's an issue as well which happen with time. for example, SMW just crashed. I reload it, open the backup save file, and it's working ok ! windows , explorer etc... but after a while... like if something make it slowing the whole machine after a whole, maybe the recording of the error log ? or the continuus backup ? or maybe some cache issues in the software ?

Hello skizlock,

I reproduced a similar behavior: when saving multiple fragments from a source file the timing of the second and other fragment's subtitles is shifted a little, but it does not start right after the last line of the first fragment's subtitle. I suppose that the problem is the same, but to make sure, could you please send me your files and a trimming project? You can send files to our technical support (support(at)solveigmm.com) or to me directly via a forum's private message. Please do include a reference to this topic in your e-mail.

Maxim, i confirm you that i have the same issue than Skizlock, that's also one of the bug i reported there earlier, by cutting several files at the same time, the external subtitles file generated have a delay and i must fix them all the time with an another software. It's happening with almost any mp4 with ext subrip .srt file.

Hello i could reproduce the subtitle empty bug and the runtime error as well. i just sent you a private message on the forum with Two dropbox Zip files with the video and subtitle in it, and the project as well which made both error happened ! Thanks ! Hope it will Help !
But to answer you, as the error happened with an MKV file, so not, it's not mp4 Specific !

I did not have the problem with 6. I think the K-Lite includes LAV. That's what it appears to use.

I never had any problem with the 6.1 as well. but i updated to the 7.0.2 which has been released few days ago, and since then, no more crash with this error (it continue to crash randomly like it was with the 6.1), so we'll see...

I may have solved it. I updated my K-Lite Codec Pack which was pretty old. I haven't done much since but so far so good. If all goes well I'll go back to version 7 to see how it works.

I don't use any codec pack except the LAV one who is up to date.
so not sure if it's the issue. did you had any error on the 6 too ?

Ok i found the problem... hope it will fixed quickly.

When the software crash (around 20 times tonight on a 4 hours session work ), often, in the stream selector, the subtitle track is de-activated...
we must click again on the scissor to have them again in the rendered file. if not a MKV file is generated with no subtitle track, or in case of an external subtitle track, a subtitle file is not gererated.

This is interesting. Is it faster to write to the support instead of here ?

i shared some messages in the past with the support about the crash of this "SMM_OCXSlider.ocx" while using the solveig software. at this time, support told me it was not SMF which had an error but my device driver, a counter design shuttle expres, who is a jog and some buttons who just send keys shortcut.

well, the crash are continuing with the 7.0 of course, but with an another device, from an another brand. I use Bome Midi Translator with a Steinberg CMC-Ai, who does the same. there is a Jog to move the slider faster in the timeline. why i would do that ? because i'm a disabled  person with hands issues, so i use these kind of device to lower the use of my hands and pains because i can't use a mouse or something like that in a repetitive way.

what both devices does ? isomething very simple... they just send Keyboard shortcut !

so, to move the slider in the timeline, a shortcut is used, it's just using the "move to the next K frame" shortcut. so when i turn my jog, it's sending this "right or left" shortcut keys to the software. nothing else. it's working perfectly, EXCEPT that "sometimes", the software crashes.. most of the time, it crash near or when the slider moved on the part where 2 videos files are joined. (i can make a picture to explain it better).

now, these devices are from different brand, work differently, don't crash in other software (cubase, Vegas Pro etc..)
the counter design shuttle express device use his own software through his own driver.
but the steinberg CMC Ai is just sending Midi command ! he's not even seen by SMF, the software which translate the midi command to keyboard shortcut (under windows 10) is Bome Midi translator, a very well known software in this field.

So i can understand that in the first place, it could be a problem with my device, but here it's different.

it's maybe a bug, or maybe your software can't handle too much shortcut sent one after one, i don't know... any help would be much appreciated. your software is very helpful, i appreciate a lot the "last backup" feature which is saved so often that when it crash, i can restart the edit from where it crashed, (maybe it's the issue ? it crashes when the backup is saved ?), but i admit as well that it's an issue which put on Nerves a LOT . !

Hello

just upgraded to the 7.0 version. so far, everythink is working ok, except  that most of the issues i had are still there (random crash, etc..).
marker are a bit faster i agree, but so far, it's the only difference and feature that i see... it's more a 6.5 version than a 7.0

but the main issue is that when cutting a video file which has external subtitles, like a Mp4 / .srt file , the result provide an ok mp4 file but the subtitle file is empty.. it's a 0 bytes Srt file.

in a Mkv, it's working ok (so far).

just got a runtime error as well while using normally the upgrade to 7. Since then, the thumbnails feature is not working anymore even after restarting the application. (didn't tried a reinstall yet).

here is a new crash i have it often when using the software. not sure if it's related to same issue we talked in private earlier . i'm still using my counterdesign shuttle express to move in the slider, because i can't do it an another way, i'm a hand disabled person, if i stop using it, i must stop using your software (and many others). it's just a device which send shortcut keys anyway, nothing else.
but in this case, it's happen just while editing ONE file, not several one.
here it crashed on a Mp4 file. (one hour long). 1.2 Gb.

the software crashed, by closing itself immediatly without showing any error message except in the windows log :

1) I get freezes and crashes just about every session.
2) There is hardly a session I don't have to recur to saved project data, because the program crashes.
3) It crashes sometimes when wanting to place a marker
4) sometimes when trying to scroll through the video with the arrow keys.
5) When trying to save separate fragments it usually stays at 0% and has to be closed through task manager.
6) I rarely have been able to save fragments without a problem.
7) In the current version a fluent workflow is near impossible
and though I did like the product it seems that it has become useless.
9) Another annoyance is that when using the arrow keys to step through the video, one has to first click into the timeline to ensure the focus is on the timeline and not on the media explorer.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 = Same.

Hello Marty, please check your personal messages.

Please pay attention to the actions order:
First you should launch the Video Splitter application.
After that run the Dump.bat and reproduce your crash.
Do not close the Video Splitter, but if you did, you should close the console too and then run it again after the Video Splitter.

good news ! i Succeded to reproduce the issue ! i I was watching the console with the dump, and an "exception" (error number ?) has been written excatly when the cursor read the second video in the time line. before the software crash i could move the cursor a bit but clicking to put a marker crashed completly the software (it make a blank transparent picture on the window (kind of graphic error).

i'll put tomorrow the  Dump on my onedrive account and will send it  to you in private !
